Record grades
We use the Goldmine scale, the same one most record shops and Discogs use. We play second-hand records before they go on the shelf, and the grade says what we heard, not what we hope.
| Grade | What it means |
|---|---|
| M | Mint. Unplayed, often still sealed. Perfect. |
| NM | Near mint. Looks and plays as if new. Maybe played a handful of times, carefully. |
| VG+ | Very good plus. Light marks you can see but not hear. Plays beautifully. Sleeve may show slight wear. |
| VG | Very good. Some surface noise in the quiet bits, light clicks, but it doesn't spoil the music. Sleeve wear, maybe a small split or writing. |
| G+ | Good plus. Plays all the way through without skipping, with noticeable noise. A record to listen to, not to collect. |
| G | Good. Plenty of noise and wear, still plays. Priced to match. |
| F / P | Fair or poor. Skips, warps or heavy damage. We rarely sell these, and say so if we do. |
Not sure?
Ask at the counter and we'll put it on the shop turntable for you. If a second-hand record you bought online isn't as graded, bring it back or post it within 14 days for a refund. See Delivery & returns.
